I last owned an X series Falcon 1996. My first car was a 1975 sky blue 6 cylinder XB Falcon sedan with a grey vinyl roof that I bought for $1500 in 1989. I owned several others over the following 10 years including all 3 coupes (XA, XB and XC) with a variety of engines from 250 to 351 and also a ZG 50th Anniversary Fairlane with a 460 DOVE motor, C6 and a 9 inch.
A few years later I got married bought a house, had kids and grew out of the house bought a bigger house and finally had a shed built and needed a toy to play with so thought what better than another XB Falcon.
I hunted around for a while and eventually picked up an unfinished project going cheap. My wife saw it advertised one night and we bought it the next day.
It hasn’t been licensed that I can find for about 15 years or more and looking at the body, has been in a shed for most of its life.
Previous owner ripped out the 250 6 cylinder and put in an injected 5 litre V8, wiring harness, BTR 4-speed transmission, diff, steering column, dash cluster, seats, etc from a donor car (1998 Fairlane) and from what I can see has done a fairly decent job of it.
Interior is rough and needs some work
It came with plenty of new parts for this car like bonnet stoppers, seals,etc, plus a boot load of spares along with some more new parts in with that lot.
What is it missing?
- Exhaust (Has headers but nothing else)
- Radiator (although original 6 cyl and donor one with thermofans included in the boot)
- Fuel pump and return line plus whatever is needed to fit out the fuel system
- Brakes (fronts are in the boot and most front lines missing and/or not connected at master cylinder plus rear brakes not connected to main rear line (imperial to metric connection needed)
There is probably enough there to start thinking about getting it running.
First job was to get it home which I did with a tilt tray. As you can see its better on one side than the other.
Parked it in the driveway for a while until I could move the retaining wall parked in front of it.
So we borrowed an excavator and made short work of that.
Driver was pretty reckless though.
And not much into OH&S. Dirty work.
Then we used the same excavator to push it up the hill and into the shed which is where it sits now.
So far all I have done is get it in there and empty the boot out. Haven’t quite formulated a plan on where to start but will do in the coming days (weeks) with an intention to get the engine going first.
Actually prior to that I need to clean some stuff out of the shed to make some room.
